The Empowerment and Engagement team partners with Denver Public Schools parents and staff as academic champions for student success. We offer professional development trainings, parent leadership training, volunteer opportunities, district-wide engagement initiatives and more!

Research shows that family and community engagement significantly boosts children's academic success and well-being. While various methods exist, specific actions have the greatest impact.

The Empowerment and Engagement Team focuses on equipping Denver Public Schools parents and staff to create great schools where Every Student Thrives

Advisory Committees/Councils

  • Asian Education Advisory Council (AEAC) was established, under court order, in 1985 by the Denver Public Schools Board of Education. AEAC seeks to improve educational opportunities and to provide quality education for all students, particularly students of Asian/Pacific Island (AA/PI) heritage.

  • Black Education Accountability Committee (BEAC) is a group of Denver Public Schools parents, guardians, students, educators, community members, district employees, and other stakeholders who value and honor the richness and diversity that our Black cultures bring to our educational system.

  • Collaborative School Committee (CSC) is an advisory committee that brings together families, staff and community members to create and implement a plan to promote high achievement within a school. This committee meets at least quarterly throughout the school year and is an opportunity for key stakeholders to have a voice in their school.

  • District Accountability Committee (DAC) is a community-led group of Denver Public Schools (DPS) parents, educators and other community leaders who are appointed by the DPS school board.

  • Latine Education Accountability Committee (LEAC) advises Denver Public Schools on matters related to changing and improving public school educational experiences for all Latine/Hispanic students by dismantling oppressive structures and systems, increasing family and community engagement, and increasing the number of Hispanic/Latine high school graduates who succeed in post-secondary academic, professional or vocational education for the benefit of the Latine community.

  • Superintendent Accountability Committee (SUPER AC) enhances transparency and accountability within the district by sharing updates on ongoing initiatives and projects. Foster collaboration and communication among advisory councils through quarterly exchanges of information and ideas. And ensures that the voices and concerns of diverse stakeholders are heard and considered in the planning and implementation of district initiatives.
